Writing in Scientific American, sexual genetics pioneer Simon LeVay observed that everyone may have same sex feelings, but that the gay gene could make gays more self-reliant, and hence more able to acknowledge and act on their feelings. In other words, our genes don't direct us to look for a penis or vagina any more than they direct us to look for a light or dark-skinned mate. Our genes may just help us rebel.
