General Description: The Automotive Technology Course prepares students for employment in the automotive service field. Prequisites: Applicants must be a high school student working on a diploma or G.E.D. Adults must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. to be admitted to the program. Certification: The currriculum covers the following areas: 1. Brakes 2. Electrical 3.. Engine Repair/Rebuilding 4. Engine Performance 5. Suspension and Steering 6. Heating and Air Conditioning 7. Manual Drive Trans/Axels 8. Automatic Transmissions/Transaxles 9. Safety 10. Tools 11. Equipment 12. Computer Literacy 13. VICA Length of Course: The course is a total of 1080 click hours. These hoursa are divided among classroom study, laboratory, and live work. The break down is as follows: Classroom: 360 hours Laboratory: 360 hours Live Work: 360 hours GREAT NEWS!!!Putnam County Technical Center achieved certification by the Nations Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in the areas of Brakes, Electrical Systems, Engine Performance, and Suspension and Steering.Our program was evaluated by the National Automotive Technicians Education FOundation (NATEF) is all areas from our facilities to the number of instructional hours. Our program, Automotive Technology, has skilled instructors and the latest tools and equipment. Now, more than ever, our graduates will be perepared to enter productive entry-level positions.
