Janet

Who is Janet?

Hi. My name is Janet, and this is my home page. The photo on the left is my most recent photograph. Some of you who have seen earlier versions of this page may wonder what happened to all the other photos that used to grace this page. As I've been trying to reflect a more 'professional' image, I removed the other photos from this main page. If you still wish to see them, you can find them here. Anyway, I am 5'8", with auburn hair and blue eyes. I live and work in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. My involvement with politics, however, is somewhat limited. I believe that I am one of 6 remaining liberals, so I probably should and will become more involved in the future.

I don't drink or smoke, but I AM addicted to History, Chocolate, computers, and my terrorist tonkinese cat, lily. I am a programmer, designer, researcher, and teacher. I studied music for a while, and still compose when I have the time. I love to garden, cook, watch movies and plays, shop and sleep. I spend more time with computers than is sane or healthy, but I have become quite adept at creating home pages, using the IRC (My nick is either MsTree (Think about it) or Janet), programming (I used to teach advanced computer courses at the University of Maryland), working with Windows NT and UNIX, and performing research in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Medical Informatics and Digital Imaging.

I was born near Austin, Texas where I spent at least ten years of my life. My father was in the Army, so we moved around a GREAT deal. Although I tired of traveling then, I have begun to rediscover the joys of travel and adventure. I have friends all over the world now, and intend to visit them one at a time, from New York to New Zealand.

Why am I here?

There are several good answers to that question...

I have a right to be here.
There aren't enough women on the Internet.
I earn my living here.
I like it here.

I suppose the best answer is that I am a partner in a WEB service company called WebWorqs. As a principal in WebWorqs, it is my responsibility to learn and utilize the latest techniques for designing and creating interesting and exciting home pages for individuals and corporations. I have found my creative energies have been challenged many times in the last few months by this new and exploding field. I truly enjoy the feeling of accomplishment when I have completed a page.

I also really enjoy myself here. I spend an inordinate amount of time on ICQ and Yahoo Messenger, chatting with my friends in far-flung parts of the world, and making new friends. I also have found that I can finally keep up with my correspondence when it is eMail. I have been atrociously lax with my normal "Snail Mail" letter writing. If you are on the IRC, you can find me chatting using one of the following names:

JLaylor on Yahoo
JanetLaylo on AOL Instant Messanger
MsTree on ICQ
